PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a treatment we offer in Dubai that uses a small amount of your own blood to support thinning hair and tired-looking skin.
Is your hair getting thinner at the parting or crown, or does your skin look tired, with dark, hollow-looking under-eyes that never seem to rest? Many people would like a treatment that works with their own body rather than adding a foreign product. PRP is one option that people often ask us about.
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is made from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is spun in a machine to collect the part that is rich in platelets, the cells that help wounds heal. This plasma is then injected into the scalp or skin. Because it comes from you, the risk of an allergic reaction is very low.
Key Benefits
For hair, PRP increased hair density. Results vary, and PRP works best when started early and combined with other proven treatments.
For the skin, PRP is used to support skin quality, fine lines and the look of tired under-eyes. Some people notice better texture and glow over a course of sessions. However, most skin studies are small, and the results are less certain than for hair. We will always tell you which goal PRP has the better evidence for. This treatment is also known as the Vampire Facial made famous by people like Kim Kardashian.
Who Needs This
PRP for hair can suit adults with early to moderate pattern thinning who want to add an in-clinic treatment to their plan. It does not regrow hair where follicles have gone, so it is less helpful in areas that are completely bald. Sudden or patchy hair loss needs a medical check first.
PRP for the face can suit adults with dull or tired-looking skin, fine lines or mild under-eye darkness who prefer a treatment based on their own blood. It is not the right choice for deep hollows, heavy bags or sagging skin, which need different treatments. Our doctor will check your skin or scalp and tell you honestly what PRP can and cannot do for you.
How It Works
First, a small amount of blood is taken from your arm, much like a routine blood test. The tube is spun in a centrifuge, which separates the blood into layers. The yellow layer near the top, rich in platelets, is collected. This is your PRP.
The PRP is then placed into the skin or scalp with fine needles or a cannula, after numbing. Platelets release growth factors, natural signals that are involved in repair. In the scalp, these signals are thought to support hair roots. In the skin, they are thought to support collagen and repair. The change builds slowly over weeks to months.
How PRP Works for Hair and Skin
PRP for Hair Loss
For pattern hair loss in men and women, PRP is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. Reviews of controlled trials show more hair per square centimetre after PRP than after a dummy injection, usually measured at 3 to 6 months. PRP is often combined with medicines such as minoxidil, and our doctor may suggest a blood test to check iron, thyroid and vitamin levels first. PRP for the Face and Under-Eyes
On the face, PRP may be injected into the skin or applied during microneedling to support texture, fine lines and glow. Under the eyes, it is sometimes used for thin, dark-looking skin. The skin here is very delicate and has many small blood vessels, so careful technique matters. Studies for the face and under-eyes are small and short, so we treat PRP as a gentle, gradual option rather than a strong one. For hollows under the eyes, a different treatment may work better.
PRP and PRF: What Is the Difference?
PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. It is made in a similar way, but usually with a slower spin and without the additive that stops blood from clotting. This leaves a gel-like layer that is thought to release growth factors more slowly. PRF has been studied mostly in dental and wound care, and there is less research on it for skin and hair than for PRP. Our doctor will explain which one we use and why.
Not All PRP Is the Same
Different clinics use different tubes, machines and spin settings. We use advanced Korea equipment only. These change how many platelets end up in the final plasma, which can be anywhere from about the same as normal blood to several times higher. This is one reason why study results vary. We use a sterile, single-use kit and the same method each time, so your treatment is consistent.
Possible Side Effects and Risks
Most side effects are mild. You may have a small bruise where blood was taken, and redness, swelling, tenderness or small bruises where the PRP was placed. These usually settle within a few days. Under-eye swelling or bruising can take up to a week. The scalp may feel sore or tight for a day or two. Rarely, infection can occur. As with any facial injection, there is a very rare risk of a blocked blood vessel.
Who Should Not Have It
PRP may not be suitable if you have a blood or platelet disorder, low platelets or anaemia, an active infection, or a current cancer or cancer treatment. Please tell us if you take blood-thinning medicines or anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen, as these can affect platelets. We do not offer PRP during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Let us know if you feel faint with blood tests, so we can make you comfortable.
Planning Your PRP in Dubai
Treatment Plans
Your plan depends on whether we are treating your scalp, your face or both. For hair, PRP is often one part of a wider plan that may include medicines and scalp care. For the face, it can be combined with other skin treatments. We take photos at the start so we can compare your progress fairly.
Number of Sessions
For hair, a first course is usually 3 to 4 sessions, followed by top-ups every 4 to 6 months if PRP is helping. For the face and under-eyes, a course is often 3 sessions. The right number depends on your response.
Time Between Sessions
For a first course, sessions are usually spaced about 4 weeks apart. Hair results are usually checked after about 3 to 6 months, because hair grows slowly. Skin changes are reviewed about 4 to 6 weeks after your last session.
In Combination With & Alternative Treatments
In Combination With
For the face, PRP can be combined with microneedling such as Virtue RF Microneedling, or given with the Hycoox Multi Suction Injector for even placement. For hair, it can be combined with mesotherapy and scalp care. Our doctor will plan the order and timing.
Alternatives
For skin quality, skin boosters or exosome therapy may be options. For under-eye hollows, a filler or the treatments on our Under-Eye Collagen Booster page may suit you better. For deeper support, see collagen stimulators. Not sure where to start? Book a consultation.
Investment Needed
The cost depends on the area treated, whether you have PRP or PRF and the number of sessions in your plan. Packages for a full course are often available. We will give you a clear quote at your consultation. PRP is usually from AED 299-2,500 per session. It completely depends on the case and areas we need to do.

The service level is amazing
Recovery & Downtime
Downtime is usually short. After facial PRP, your skin may look red and slightly swollen for a day or two, and small bruises can last up to a week, especially under the eyes. After scalp PRP, your scalp may feel tender or tight for a day or two. Most people go back to work the next day. If you have an event coming up, plan your treatment at least a week before.
Aftercare Instructions
For the first 24 hours, avoid make-up on treated skin, and don’t touch or rub the area. Wait until the next day to wash your hair after scalp PRP, and avoid hair dye or strong styling products for a few days. Avoid hard exercise, saunas and steam rooms for 24 to 48 hours. If you need pain relief, ask us first, because some painkillers may affect platelets. Drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen.
Best Skin Product Ingredients for Aftercare
Keep your skin care simple for a few days. A gentle cleanser, a fragrance-free moisturiser with ceramides or panthenol and a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 50 or higher are best. Avoid retinoids, acids and scrubs for about 3 days. After scalp PRP, use a mild, fragrance-free shampoo.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Does PRP really work for hair loss?
For pattern hair loss, reviews of controlled trials show that PRP can increase hair density compared with a dummy treatment. Results vary between people, and it works best in early thinning and alongside other treatments. It cannot bring back hair where follicles have gone.
Does PRP work for the face and under-eyes?
Some people see better texture, glow and under-eye brightness over a course. However, the studies for the face are small, so the evidence is weaker than for hair. We will tell you honestly what to expect for your skin.
Does it hurt?
The blood draw feels like a routine blood test. We apply numbing cream to the face before treatment. The scalp can feel more sensitive, and we will talk you through ways to keep you comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
For hair, usually 3 to 4 sessions about 4 weeks apart, then top-ups every 4 to 6 months if it is helping. For the face, often 3 sessions about 4 weeks apart.
When will I see results?
For hair, changes usually take at least 3 months and are often clearer at 6 months. For the skin, some people notice a glow within a few weeks, with gradual change over the course.
What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
Both come from your own blood. PRF is usually made with a slower spin and without the additive that stops blood clotting, so it forms a gel-like layer. PRF has less research for skin and hair than PRP. Our doctor will explain which one we use.
Is PRP safe?
Because PRP comes from your own blood, the risk of an allergic reaction is very low. Common effects are bruising, swelling and tenderness for a few days. Rare risks include infection and, with facial injections, a blocked blood vessel. Seek help straight away if you notice severe pain or a change in your vision.
Who should not have PRP?
PRP may not be suitable if you have a blood or platelet disorder, anaemia, an active infection or cancer, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please tell us about any blood thinners or anti-inflammatory painkillers you take.
Is a vampire facial the same as PRP?
"Vampire facial" is a popular name for PRP used with microneedling on the face. It is one way of giving PRP to the skin. We will explain the method we suggest for you.
Is PRP approved for hair loss?
PRP is widely used for pattern hair loss, and studies are promising, but it is not approved by the US FDA for hair growth. Results vary.
