It is not the right treatment for deep acne scars, deep wrinkles or stubborn pigmentation such as melasma on its own. These usually need stronger or different treatments. How It Works

The outer layer of your skin is made of flat, dead cells held together by a kind of natural glue. These cells normally shed by themselves, but in oily or ageing skin they can pile up, block pores and make the surface look dull. LHA is a fat-loving acid, so it travels into oily pores and loosens this glue gently, cell by cell, rather than burning the surface away.

After your skin is cleansed, the solution is applied evenly and left on for a set time while you may feel some warmth or tingling. It is then removed and your skin is soothed. As the loosened cells shed over the following days, a smoother surface shows through. Repeating the peel over several sessions builds on this effect.

LHA (capryloyl salicylic acid) is the main active ingredient, in a mild alkaline base with glycerin, plant extracts such as lotus leaf, schisandra and turmeric, and a small amount of plant oils. It comes in two strengths, LHALA Peel Basic and LHALA Peel Ultra, and our team chooses the one that suits your skin. It also contains lemon peel oil and natural fragrance compounds, so please tell us if you have reacted to fragrances or citrus in the past.

Your Appointment, Step by Step

Your first visit starts with a skin check and a few questions about your skin care, medicines and past reactions. On the day, your skin is cleansed and dried, and your eyes and lips are protected. The peel is brushed on evenly and left for a few minutes while our skin expert watches how your skin responds. It is then removed, and a calming mask or serum and sunscreen are applied. The whole visit usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Possible Side Effects and Risks

During the peel, warmth, tingling or mild stinging are common and fade quickly. Afterwards, your skin may look pink and feel slightly tight or dry for a day or two, and some people have light flaking. Less often, there can be stronger redness, irritation or an allergic reaction. In darker skin types, any peel can sometimes leave temporary dark patches if the skin becomes irritated, which is why we start gently and protect your skin from the sun. Please tell us straight away if you feel burning that does not settle.

Who Should Not Have It

Please do not book if you have broken, sunburnt or very irritated skin, an active cold sore, or a flare of eczema, rosacea or dermatitis on your face. LHA is related to salicylic acid, so tell us if you are allergic to aspirin or salicylates. We usually avoid peels if you have taken isotretinoin for acne in the last 6 months. Please also tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you use retinoids or strong acids, or if you have had laser, waxing or another peel in the last 1 to 2 weeks.

Treatment Plans

Your plan depends on your main concern. For blocked pores and texture, a course of peels is often combined with Professional Cleansing (Acne Extraction). For dullness, the peel can be part of a regular glow routine. We start with a milder strength and adjust as we see how your skin responds.

Number of Sessions

One peel can leave your skin feeling smoother, but a course usually works better. In studies of LHA peels, people had about 6 peels over 3 months. Most plans start with around 4 to 6 sessions, followed by occasional maintenance.

Time Between Sessions

Sessions are usually spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. This gives your skin time to renew and settle between peels. If your skin is sensitive, we may leave a longer gap.

Recovery & Downtime

Most people have little or no downtime. Your skin may look pink for a few hours and feel a little tight or dry for a day or two. Light flaking can happen around day 2 to 4, especially around the nose and chin. You can usually go back to work straight away, and most people wear light make-up the next day.

Aftercare Instructions

For the first 24 hours, wash your face gently with lukewarm water and skip make-up if you can. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and heavy exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Don’t pick or scrub any flaking skin. Let it come away on its own. Stop retinoids, acids and scrubs for about 3 to 5 days. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every day, and reapply it when you are outdoors, because freshly peeled skin burns more easily.

After a peel, your skin needs calm and protection. Look for a gentle, low-pH cleanser and a fragrance-free moisturiser with ceramides, panthenol or plain hyaluronic acid to support your skin barrier. A mineral or broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher is the most important step. Once your skin feels normal again, usually after about 5 days, you can slowly return to your usual actives.
